Meet Dr Bernie O’Connor
(She/Her)
(She/Her)
Dr. Bernie hails from the West of Ireland. She was born in Mayo, studied to be a doctor in Galway, then completed her General Practice training in Sligo. From her first day in General Practice as a student she was hooked and knew this was the career path she was going to take. She loves the varied nature of practice and getting to know people from all generations, as well as being allowed to care for them throughout all these stages.
She was involved in the training of both future GPs, of medical students and in collaboration with her hospital colleagues where she worked as a GP in Ireland.
Upon reaching a milestone birthday, Dr. Bernie decided she needed some adventure and sunshine in her life and thus started her story in Melbourne in 2016.
Since then she has yet again fallen for the West; settling in the Western Suburbs, meeting a local gentleman and acquiring a stepson. She has worked in a number of GP clinics providing Women's health services, Shared Antenatal care and Mental Health care. She was also heavily involved with the COVID response in the past two years working in community respiratory clinics and vaccination centres. She also likes to venture down the coast occasionally to work in Lorne and Apollo Bay which provides a varied aspect to her work.
Bernie is passionate about preventative medicine and is fascinated in the mind body connection and how it makes us sick or keeps us well.
