Meet Dr Jo Wright
(She/Her)
(She/Her)
Jo grew up near Manchester in the north of England and graduated from Leicester University Medical School in 1991. After a few years of hospital training she understood there was more to medicine than just treating the physical aspects of disease. She commenced her GP training and discovered the satisfaction of treating her patients holistically, taking into account their work, family, social and emotional lives, as well as their physical symptoms.
Jo first came to Melbourne in 1998 for a working holiday when she diverted from general practice into mental health training. She spent 18 months working in Footscray and the western suburbs. She developed a connection to the west and fell in love with Melbourne.
Back in the UK her interest in mental health led to training in Family Therapy and then Psychosexual Therapy, which continues to be her special interest.
She returned to Melbourne in 2008 and has been practising in the west since then. Jo loves the variety of general practice and particularly the opportunity for GPs to work in partnership with their patients to achieve well-being. She particularly enjoys chronic disease management where she can enable her patients to find their strengths in managing long term health problems.

Outside of work Jo has been a foster parent, AFLW fan, nerdy birdwatcher, veggie gardener, cat lover and intrepid camper. She is happy to chat about any of these subjects.
